With the final divorce hearing fast approaching, it’s time to start the process and change my name back to my maiden name….again. This is my 4th name change in my adult life. You’d think I’d be a pro by now. I changed my name when I was married in 2007, changed back to my maiden name in 2014 after our divorce. Changed it again when I married my 2nd husband in 2017. Divorced again in 2020 which leads me to the most recent name change.
You know, IF I wanted to…My last name could be annnnnnything I wanted. What do you think of these? Rachel McConaughey, Rachel Affleck, Rachel Ellsbury, Rachel Tatum… 🤣. My co-worker said I should change it to Green. Get it, Rachel Green from Friends (I may be obsessed with the show). I could smash them all into one long name of Rachel Herrick Verrill Herrick Jendrick Herrick! Try to fit that on a tshirt 😬Maybe shorten it to: Rachel Lynn Verrill Jendrick Herrick since every name had an impact on my life. Joking!
Here is a quick reference guide as to what you need to change when you get married and change your last name. This says Newlywed name change but, the same applies for changing your name back after a divorce. I never dared to try one of those “one stop” gimmicks that want you to pay them to do it all for you. I’m not that trusting.
The fun part is the time frame in between your name actually changing in computer systems. “Try Jendrick…no? Okay try Herrick…still no? Huh…how long ago was this? 10 years? Okay definitely Verrill…yup Rickey Bobbi was 07-14 and Robert was 17-20 that’s right. Okay -Verrill, final answer”. 🤦♀️
If I had to do it all over, knowing what I know now, I would have not changed my name after divorcing my children’s father. I would have kept it the same as the kids. They want me to go back to Verrill so bad. I just couldn’t though. The kids obviously see no issue. Me on the other hand, think of the reactions 🤣. Especially the reaction of my ex’s husband’s live in girlfriend. 😬
